The new nonprofit, Humane Smarts, transformed a vacant East Village lot into SMARTS Farm—an active space for learning and growing in Makers Quarter™.
Located at the corner of F Street and 15th, SMARTS Farm is a community garden aimed at supporting healthy and productive lifestyles for the community while teaching, enhancing, and connecting residents and youth to fresh produce and education about urban gardening. Programs include multiple workshop venues, hands-on gardening opportunities for San Diego’s youth, as well as community garden plots for nearby residents.
Paired with the success of Seeds@City Urban Farm—a one-acre working farm just a few blocks north on the San Diego City College campus—SMARTS Farm provides urban residents and students direct access to urban gardening.
